This year, Mother’s Day falls on Sunday, May 13th, so it’s time to start sourcing for it now. After all, your goal should be to break your Amazon Mother’s Day sales record, which makes advanced planning necessary.
But with so many types of moms out there, how do you know what items to stock up on?
Don’t stress; that’s why we’re here. We’ve put together a lengthy list of potential hot-sellers on Amazon for Mother’s Day. The beauty of these products is that most sell year-round, so even if you don’t sell out during Amazon Mother’s Day sales, you’ll be able to sell them later.
Read on to see if you’ve got these products and categories covered—or if you need to start seriously sourcing today.
But first, let’s talk about gift wrap
Gift wrap is something you should set up on your Amazon account for every holiday. It’s adds major value to your Amazon offerings because it removes something from your customers’ to-do lists.
Here are some things to note from Amazon.com:
• Gift Options are not available for Books, Music, Video, and DVD (BMVD) products.
• Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) offers gift-wrap services for eligible items, at no extra cost to sellers.
• Gift-wrapping is charged on a per item basis. You cannot charge a flat fee for gift-wrapping a buyer's entire order.
This is clearly great news for FBA sellers, and MFN sellers can also take advantage.
Make sure to read up on Amazon’s specific policies for gift wrap so you understand what it entails from your end. And now, on to the products to source for Amazon Mother’s Day sales!
Cool tech products and accessories
These days, most moms are tech-savvy, and that means electronic devices and accessories will be top-sellers for Mother’s Day. Consider stocking up on computers, e-readers, tablets, phones, and other high-tech products. And, don’t forget to source phone covers, Kindle cases, and other equipment to protect and enhance those valuable products.
You can also source luxury tech products like massage chairs and cushions, and other devices for people looking to indulge their moms.
While tech products are expensive, remember that plenty of consumers won’t hesitate to spend excessively for Mother’s Day.
Products for the home, kitchen, and bath
Keeping a beautiful home is an idea that everyone can get behind, so consider sourcing home goods to meet the Mother’s Day demand. For starters, consider decorative art pieces, sconces, furniture, and ornate trinkets that people would purchase for their moms. Picture frames are also big sellers, as people will frame photos of themselves with their moms as gifts.
Then, start thinking about other rooms of the house.
First, think about the kitchen. For moms who love to cook, you can source kitchen gadgets like mixers, blenders, knife sets, and other culinary tools. You can also source delicious ingredients that make cooking more enjoyable, such as artisanal jams, spices, and fancy condiments.
Then, think about bath products, like lush bathrobes, bubble bath, boutique soaps, and other products for beautifying bathrooms. Scented candles, aromatherapy oil diffusers, and potpourri will also be popular products for Amazon Mother’s Day shoppers.
Flowers, plants, and gardening goods
Speaking of aromatic products, a colorful bouquet of flowers to beautify the home is perfect for many moms out there.
With that in mind, you should consider listing fresh cut flowers for Mother’s Day. If shipping flowers is too complicated, then consider listing decorative plants (fake plants sell, too!), starter sets of seeds, vases, and flower pots.
Moms can also be passionate about gardening, so anything that can beautify the landscape surrounding a home is worth sourcing. There are also offbeat gardening items, like this funky vegetable growing kit, that make fun gifts.
Remember to optimize your listings by including keywords like “Great Mother’s Day Gift” so people searching in that way find your products. Not every potential customer logs into Amazon knowing what they want, and some will simply type “mother’s day gift” into the search bar.
Beauty, skincare, and fragrance products
From luxury skincare products like masques and creams to hair care items and fragrances, the Beauty category will be looking good leading up to Mother’s Day. So, start sourcing makeup and perfume, and consider investing in some ready-made gift sets and baskets.
During Amazon Mother’s Day sales, you should also use a product bundling strategy to help drive revenue. If you combine a few hot selling items (and that goes for almost every category, not just Beauty), you can create a unique bundled listing that provides added value to customers.
The best part is that you’ll be the only seller with that particular bundle (with a unique ASIN) until a competitor copies you—and that may never happen. Just make sure you follow Amazon's detailed product bundling guidelines to ensure you're in compliance.
Health and fitness products
You should also target customers buying for moms that are into health and wellness. That means sourcing products like exercise performance trackers, yoga equipment, and apparel. FitBits are especially popular, and there are all sorts of accessories for them that you can sell as well.
Of course, these products may not be as popular as some other Amazon Mother’s Day categories, so source wisely when picking your product mix.
Clothing, shoes, & jewelry
Clothing and shoes will undoubtedly be hot sellers for Mother’s Day. Of course, moms have styles that span the entire spectrum of fashion. Narrowing down the brands, specific articles of clothing/shoes/jewelry, and the quantities to source will require some sales forecasting on your end.
That said, with the right mix of apparel and footwear, you’ll be able to take advantage of the increase sales for Mother’s Day.
Jewelry is another category you shouldn’t forgot about. Successful adults will be tempted to gift their moms stylish bracelets, necklaces, and earrings, so consider rounding out your offerings with some bling.
Coffee, tea, and related products
Plenty of moms are coffee and tea aficionados, so think about how you can tap into this demographic this Mother’s Day.
Artisanal coffees and teas are an enticing gift option, as are espresso machines, coffeemakers, tea pots, and decorative tea sets with cups and coasters.
For shoppers with lower price targets, coffee mugs with mom-related messages will come in handy. Not every shopper can afford to drop big bucks for Mother’s Day, so sourcing less pricey goods will help appeal to more buyer demographics.
Books are always a big seller for Mother’s Day, especially if there are trending works like Twilight or Fifty Shades of Grey lighting up the marketplace.
This strategy definitely requires a bit of research. To help you get started, here’s a roundup of popular Mother’s Day gift books from last year.
Arts and crafts supplies
For artsy moms, stock up on arts and crafts equipment, such as paint sets, canvases, and other creative tools. While this won’t be the most popular Amazon Mother’s Day category, that’s okay; back-to-school sales will help you move these products in the coming months.
Also, don’t be afraid to source niche art products. Some moms are avid knitters, so supplies like yarn and knitting needle sets are great for Mother’s Day. These products are lightweight and make for easy shipping, and you may not have much competition.
Another great gift idea within this category is adult coloring books. Coloring has become a big trend in stress-relief for people with high-pressure jobs, and these coloring books present a great opportunity for strategic product bundling.
Consider bundling a fun adult coloring book with packages of magic markers and colored pencils as a unique gift idea.
Wine and related products
Many moms love sipping on fine wines, so source products to cater to their kin for Mother’s Day.
Not all sellers are pre-approved to sell wine itself, but not all is lost if that’s the case for you. You can still sell wine glasses, carafes, racks, and bottle openers (manual and electric). Not to mention fancy wine bottle stoppers, aerators, decanters, books, and even this wine glass holder for the bath tub.
Make sure to brush up on Amazon’s guidelines for selling alcohol products before you start sourcing so you don’t accidentally break any rules.
Chocolates and candies
The final product recommendations for Amazon Mother’s Day sales are the sweetest of all, but there’s a caveat for FBA sellers: Amazon’s time- and temperature-sensitive product guidelines require all meltable items to be sold or removed from FBA inventory before May 1st.
According to Amazon FBA accepts products that are subject to melting (such as chocolates) between October 1 and April 30 of each calendar year.
• Meltable products that are sent to FBA between May 1 and September 30 will be received as unfulfillable or disposed of.
• Any unsold meltable inventory still present after April 30 in our fulfillment centers will not be available for sale. Hence, such inventory may be determined to be unfulfillable and disposed of.
• You must submit a removal order to have your unsold meltable inventory returned to you prior to May 1 of each calendar year. Review the How to Create Removal Orders help page and ensure that you submit your removal or disposal order so that the inventory is returned or disposed of before May 1.
That’s not the best news for FBA sellers, since Mother’s Day is on May 13th. Still, it might make sense to stock up on boxes of chocolates for early Mother’s Day shoppers.
Of course, we can’t recommend sourcing large quantities of meltables just before the cutoff date. But plenty of Amazon’s Mother’s Day shoppers lack creativity and imagination, so they’ll want to resort to obvious gift choices like sweets.
If you’re comfortable taking on some risk, this could be a strategic play for Amazon Mother’s Day sales. Just make sure to have a removal order ready so Amazon doesn’t dispose of your unsold meltables and leave you at a loss come May 1st.
And there you have it!
